PLCs for electric monorail systems (EMS) with different communication types

For its portfolio of electric monorail systems (EMS), Siemens provides products for rail communication systems and for displays that can be read from a considerable distance.
The products can also be used for other applications besides EMS applications.

The PLCs intended for this purpose are the new SIMATIC S7-1200 and S7-1500, which are both programmed using standard Siemens software.

On the drive end, frequency converters (SINAMICS) and drives (SIMOGEAR) from Siemens, which are also programmed using standard Siemens software, will be used.

The PLCs are generally differentiated based on the communication between carriage and plant.

EMS400S communicates by means of power signal booster communication (full duplex pulse code communication via the rail with 4x16 bps).

EMS600 uses the power line booster system for communication with Ethernet-based communication connections and thereby supports the use of the proven SIMATIC PROFINET automation components on mobile plant units.
