According to the Kazakh Capital Network, Kasym Tlepov, the interim representative of the Transport Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, spoke about the development of Kazakhstan's transport and transit potential at the press conference of the government work. He said that Kazakhstan plans to build its own ferry fleet, and Kazakhstan will become the main transportation and logistics hub in Central Asia in the future.

Kasym Tlepov said that so far, the potential of international transport routes across the Caspian Sea has not been effectively developed, which is one of the main alternative routes. Within the framework of the previous national plans and documents, Kazakhstan has implemented the project of building a comprehensive ferry facility at Aktau Port, and has taken sures to expand the capacity of the existing port in Aktau, especially the construction of three dry bulk terminals. At present, the infrastructure capacity is about 21 million tons. Kazakhstan can transport any type of goods on the route in this direction.

He pointed out that Kazakhstan has its own commercial fleet. In particular, the four dry cargo ships currently operating in the Caspian Sea provide container transport services. The national shipping company Kazmortranslot plans to purchase two more container ships before the end of the year.

Kasym Tlepov said that Kazakhstan intends to build its own ferry fleet. In the long run, it is planned to increase the number of ferry vessels to 10. At present, the main monopolist of this business is Azerbaijan Shipping Company.

He pointed out that under the situation of increasing container traffic in Kazakhstan, it is planned to build a container hub in Aktau Port. At this stage, the problem of attracting international transport and logistics companies and international container operators is being solved. This will help attract their container fleet. At present, there is still a shortage of containers in Kazakhstan. Therefore, if we can attract the container fleet, it will improve our export and transit transshipment capacity.
