亚太竹区是国际最大的竹区。南至南纬42°的新西兰，北至北纬51°的库页岛中部，东至太平洋诸岛，西至印度洋西南部。
本区竹子约50多属，900多种。既有丛生竹，又有散生竹，前者约占3/5，后者约占2/5，其中有经济价值的约有100多种。
首要产竹国家有我国、印度、缅甸、泰国、孟加拉、柬埔寨、越南、日本、印度尼西亚、马来西亚、菲律宾、韩国、斯里兰卡等。
印度
印度有19个属136种竹子，竹林面积约有209.7万hm2。首要是丛生型竹种，只在北部山区有些散生型竹种分布。竹林可分为4种类型。
（1）竹子纯林：125丛/hm2以上，产值平均为2.52t/hm2。
（2）竹木混交林：50～125丛/hm2；产值为1.85t/hm2。
（3）稀疏竹林：25～50丛/hm2，产较平均为0.17t/hm2。
（4）零星竹林：少于25丛/hm2，l竹丛约有5～30株竹子。
The bamboo area of the Asia Pacific is the largest bamboo area in the world. South to 42 degrees south latitude, New Zealand, north to 51 degrees north latitude, central Sakhalin, east to Pacific Islands, West to India southwest.
There are about more than 50 genera and 900 kinds of bamboos in this area. There are both clustered bamboos and scattered bamboos. The former accounts for about 3/5, and the latter accounts for about 2/5, of which there are about 100 kinds of economic value.
The primary bamboo producing countries include China, India, Burma, Thailand, Bangladesh, Kampuchea, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka and so on.
India
There are 19 genera and 136 species of bamboo in India. The area of bamboo forest is about 2 million 97 thousand Hm2. The first is the clustered bamboo species, and only some scattered bamboo species are distributed in the northern mountainous area. Bamboo forests can be divided into 4 types.
(1) pure bamboo forest: 125 /hm2 above, with an average output value of 2.52t/hm2.
(2) mixed forest of bamboo and wood: 50~125 clusters /hm2; the output value is 1.85t/hm2.
(3) sparse bamboo forest: 25~50 /hm2, the average yield is 0.17t/hm2.
(4) sporadic bamboo forests: less than 25 /hm2, l bamboo has about 5~30 bamboo.
