新标准除了对布线产品的选型做出新规定外，还对基础设施布线的管理标准进行了更新，提出了要满足数据中心所有管理需求的目标，特别是明确了之前标准中，标签管理并不涉及的数据中心设计和安装的一些特殊需求。新颁布的TIA-606-B电信设施管理标准对管理需求作出了四个等级的划分，不仅增加了对机柜、机架、配线箱、配线架、面板、端口和线缆的管理，还对智能配线架的使用也作出了规定，使数据中心的标签管理更加规范化了。

过去，数据中心基础设施的线缆管理，普遍采用手动拖拽、检测仪检测和标签管理等手段。很明显，运维人员用手动的操作来实现线缆管理既不可靠也没效率。同时，利用检测仪来检测，设备和检测人员的费用也是一项支出，而且检测仪的效率较低，使用范围也局限于铜缆布线系统。

为了解决这些问题，近两年来智能布线管理系统的呼声似乎很高。但业内的一些系统集成商却表示，智能布线管理系统宣传过火，在实际应用中其性价比却并不高，成本高、稳定性差等问题一直困扰着用户，所以当前大多用户还是呼吁采用综合管理手段。鉴于标签管理具有标识和记录等功能，这种方式对于实现数据中心的高效管理依旧是高可用的。
