Tetrachloroethylene is a clear colorless volatile liquid having an ether-like odor. Noncombustible. Insoluble in water. Vapors heavier than air. Density approximately 13.5 lb / gal. Low solubility in water, 150mg L-1 at 25°C. Soluble in ethanol, benzene, acetone, hexane, chloroform and other chlorinated organic solvents.
