为保证电网停电时，也能利用UPS电源继续向计算机提供高质量供电，后备电池的配置尤为重要。当负载不允许被中供电时，通信机房内UPS电池后备时间应大于从市电中断到恢复的时间或到发电机组正常供电所需时间（前级供电系统配有发电机组），若此段时间较长，则应配置外接的长延时的电池组，但此时应确认UPS内部整流器有能力对外接大容量电池组进行充电，否则应配置外接充电器。电池容量选择应遵循以下原则：即电池必须在后备时间内供电给逆变器，且在额定负载下，电池组电压不应下降到逆变器所允许的最低电压以下。在布置机房设备排列时，应尽量使电池组靠近UPS主机，缩短两者连线长度，增大连线截面积，以降低连线自感量和线路压降。电池组可安装在电池柜内，也可安装在敞开的电池架中，前者美观。整洁，但对楼板承重要求较高，后者可分散承重，且散热性好，但占地面积多，易积尘，给维护带来不便。

供电系统的电气隔离及接地

一般来说，电网中经常存在差模噪扰和共模噪扰，这些噪扰对计算机正常运行存在着不同程度干扰。另外，零线电位的偏移也会对计算机运行造成影响。所以在考虑UPS供电方案时应采取措施把这些影响减少到最小。传统的UPS通过内部的工频输入及输出变压器来实现负载和电网间的电隔离和电压匹配，抑制来自电网的共模及差模噪扰电压，使其不致耦会到计算机电源。此类UPS的输出零点是取自隔离变压器次级Y型绕组的中性点。为保证输出零点电压不偏移，应从通信机房的交流工作接地排上单独引线至该输出点。
