SIMATIC PCS neo is based on the tried-and-tested SIMATIC S7-410 controller architecture, but features a fundamentally new system architecture in the software which was designed with the following objectives:

Zero-installation web clients
SIMATIC PCS neo supports pure browser-based web clients on the basis of the W3C standard HTML5. This avoids complicated installation procedures. HTML5 compatibility is tested and ensured based on the Google Chrome browser.

Multi-user access
All access to SIMATIC PCS neo requires logon (authentication) first and is controlled by the central, project-wide assignment of rights. Authentication corresponds to conventional standards (coupling to a Windows domain is possible) and can also be set up as two-factor authentication to increase security. The rights system allows very detailed access control for objects and functions of the system on the one hand and, on the other hand, specific access patterns can also be conveniently managed for multiple users by defining roles.
During engineering, multiple users distributed worldwide can work on the same project data version in parallel via the web in different change contexts (sessions) isolated from one another. By assigning locks, the system efficiently and transparently prevents the simultaneous modification of a single object by multiple users. This helps to avoid many inconsistencies before they even occur. Changes are introduced in a controlled and consistent manner ("Publish") and can also optionally be associated with versioning.
