但再看逆变器一支功率管（比如VT2）穿通（短路）的情况。只要VT3和VT4一工作就形成引发出巨大的隐患：管子截止时原来有两个串联功率管承受的高压现在都加在了一个管子上，压力增加了一倍，一旦它们承受不了这种高压就会被击穿而形成短路，如图13所示。强大的电流可将VT3或VT4瞬间炸毁，否则就会导致全系统跳闸保护。某石油公司的兆瓦级机房就是因为这个原因而造成3+1并联冗余的4´300kVA供电系统跳闸停机。在这里的变压器根本没有任何作为。当然如果不是断路器及时跳闸就会导致变压器起火。在这种情况下虽然也是隔断了直流，但同样是把自己烧毁了，这样的隔直流功能没给用户带来任何好处。
以上两种情况都是用烧毁UPS本身的代价而保护了IT设备，这对IT设备用户是不是就算是一种福音呢？当然不是，因为不论是烧毁UPS还是IT设备都会使系统崩溃而无法继续工作。
如果UPS供电设备在逆变器功率管损坏的情况下不但保护了IT设备，同时也保证了本身的安然无恙，这样的隔直流功能才有实际意义，这才是用户真正需要的。

持此种说法的误区在于没有搞清楚变压器不能加直流电压和电流的道理。
UPS变压器能提高UPS系统的可靠性和稳定性吗？
包括UPS在内的电子设备容易出故障的主要因素是高温。在高温下，器件的漏电流增大、耐压降低。据有阿累纽斯定律介绍，当环境温度在25°C的基础上，每上升10°C，元器件或设备的寿命就减半。当温度按照10°C的算术梯度上升时，元器件或设备的寿命就会按照1/ 2n（n=1，2，3…）的几何级数规律递减。而机内的温升来自机内各个电路环节的功耗，变压器是其中之一，如果没有变压器就可以少去这部分功耗。所以从这个意义上说，由于变压器的存在，在一定程度上降低了系统的可靠性。
这里的误区在于将变压器的机械稳定性和电气性能混为一谈。这里的稳定性指的是电性能的稳定性，既然由于变压器的存在降低了系统的可靠性，当然也相应地降低了稳定性。陷入误区的人们误把电的稳定性当作机械稳定性来理解：变压器重量大，重心稳定，所以也就保证了系统的可靠性和稳定性。再者，变压器只是UPS的一个组成部分，它不给整体添麻烦也算提高了设备的可靠性，若从这个角度上说看问题，任何一个组成部分都可以这么说。
5. UPS变压器能使系统适应大范围的电网变化吗？
有人说：由于目前的电网供电质量不高，电压波动很大，不得不采用带变压器的工频机UPS，并说工频机变压器就可以使UPS系统适应电网电压的大幅度变化，这也正是用户所关心的问题，难怪可以打动用户的心。事实如何呢？可从图14看得明白。从图中可以看出，

这个变压器就是前面所介绍的输出电压变压器。这个变压器是接在逆变器的后面，它所承受的输入电压变化仅仅是±1%，可说吃的是“小灶”，不论输入电压如何变化都和这个变压器无关。就是说，这个变压器的加入和输入端是否能承受电网的如何变化是风、马、牛毫不相关。所以那种“变压器能使系统适应大范围电网变化”的说法也就没人相信了。
一个附带的问题：在大功率变压器中由于三角形变星形可消除三次谐波，所以这也是抗干扰。实际上在数据中心的IT设备大部分用的是相电压220V，在这个电压上三次谐波依然存在，只是在线电压380V上由于相移的关系才消除了三次谐波，所以不用这个电压的用户享受不到这个好处。
